JRC Traineeship – European Commission

What it is:

A paid traineeship offered by the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the European Commission’s science and knowledge service.
It targets graduates (with at least a 3-year higher education degree) in scientific or research-related fields ( including agriculture and food security, health, industry and space, energy, natural resources, mobility, creativity and an inclusive society, civil security for society, environment and climate change, nuclear safety and security, crisis management, population dynamics and migration, digital transformation and data, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence as well as innovation and growth). Purpose:
To provide hands-on research experience on projects supporting EU policy, within a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.

Who can apply:

  • Nationals of EU Member States or countries associated with the EU’s Research Framework Programmes.
  • Candidates with a strong scientific/technical background.
  • Must speak at least two EU official languages (one must be English).

Duration:
5 months, full-time.

JRC sites across Europe:

  • Geel (Belgium)
  • Ispra (Italy)
  • Karlsruhe (Germany)
  • Petten (Netherlands)
  • Seville (Spain)

Allowance:
Monthly stipend between €1,297.73 and €1,663.60 depending on the location. Travel/relocation support may be available.

21 October 2025, 15:00 (Brussels time)

Frequency:
Two intakes per year – typically in March and October.
